Tips for a favicon that actually reads at 16 pixels
Simplify: use a bold mark or a single letter rather than your full logo, keep strong contrast, avoid thin lines and small text, and give the shape a little breathing room with padding. Is my image uploaded to your server?
No. Everything happens in your browser using the canvas API — the image never leaves your device.
Which favicon sizes do I actually need?
16 and 32px for browser tabs, 180px for Apple touch icons, and 192/512px for Android and web-app manifests. This tool makes all of them.
Do I need a .ico file?
Modern browsers accept PNG favicons, which is what this tool produces. If an old system insists on .ico, the 32px PNG can be converted with any image tool.
How do I add the favicon to WordPress?
Easiest: Appearance → Customize → Site Identity → Site Icon, and upload the 512px PNG. Or paste the HTML snippet into your theme's head.
My favicon is not updating — why?
Browsers cache favicons aggressively. Hard-refresh, clear the cache, or open the site in a private window to see the new one.
