Why image size matters for your website
Images are usually the heaviest thing on a page. A single photo straight from a phone can be 4–8 MB — dozens of times more than it needs to be for a screen. Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. Compression runs entirely in your browser using the canvas API. Nothing is sent to our server or stored.
Will compression make my photos look bad?
At 75–85% quality, most photos look identical on screen while shrinking dramatically. Drag the slider down and compare — you'll see where it starts to matter.
Why didn't my PNG get smaller?
PNG is lossless, so the quality slider has little effect. Switch the output to WebP or JPEG for photos; keep PNG only for logos and images that need transparency.
What size should website images be?
Rarely wider than the space they fill — 1200px is plenty for most content images, 1920px for full-width banners. Bigger just wastes bandwidth.
