For a typical small business site — a brochure site with a contact form and moderate traffic — this is genuinely enough, and paying more does not automatically make it better. The quality difference between providers at this tier is about support and reliability, not the price.

Worth it when your site is busier, runs WooCommerce, or is directly tied to revenue — faster loading under real traffic and fewer slowdowns from neighbouring websites on the same server.
VPS and Dedicated Hosting (higher, usually unnecessary)
Dedicated resources for genuinely high-traffic or custom setups. Most small businesses reading this do not need it, and a provider pushing a VPS on a 5-page brochure site is overselling.
What a Small Business Site Actually Needs
Hosting is sold on specifications that mean very little to most buyers. Here is the short version of what actually matters for a normal business website, and what is being sold to you for no reason.
- Genuinely matters: an SSL certificate included, daily backups, a server located in or near India, and support that answers when something breaks at nine in the evening.
- Not the same thing as maintenance: hosting keeps the server running; it does not update your plugins, test your backups or watch your uptime. Signs You Are Overpaying for Hosting
Plenty of small businesses in India are on the wrong plan, usually because it was chosen for them years ago and never revisited. A few honest signals worth checking on your next renewal notice.
- You are on a reseller or business plan costing several thousand rupees a month for a five-page brochure site.
- You are paying separately for an SSL certificate that most hosts now include free.
- Your renewal is three to five times the price you originally paid, and you have never questioned it.
- You are paying for a plan sized for a busy store while running a site that gets a few dozen visitors a day.

Free Hosting, and Why It Costs More
Free hosting exists, and for a hobby project it is fine. For a business it usually means adverts you do not control appearing on your pages, a subdomain instead of your own name, no reliable backups, and no support when the site goes down. The money you save is real but small. What it costs you is the ability to be taken seriously, and the ability to get help on the day something breaks.
Does GST Apply to Hosting Charges?
Yes, 18% GST applies to hosting services from GST-registered providers in India. Advertised prices are often shown exclusive of it, which is another reason the figure on your invoice can differ from the one in the advert. If your business is GST-registered, it is normally claimable as input credit.

Hosting is quoted monthly and paid yearly, which is how a ₹99 plan turns into a bill you did not expect. The hosting-type table near the top of this page is monthly. Here it is again as a yearly figure — the number you will actually be asked for.

So how much does web hosting cost for a small business?
For a normal small business website in India, the shared-hosting band above works out to ₹2,400 – ₹9,600 a year, and a decent plan at its real renewal rate lands around ₹3,000 to ₹6,000. Add the domain on top — roughly ₹700 to ₹1,500 a year, as listed further down. Under ₹2,000 a year is below the ₹200-a-month floor in that table, and usually means either a first-term discount that will end, or a plan thin enough that you will feel it.
Two things make the web hosting rate you are quoted misleading. The first is the renewal price, which is covered in the next section. The second is the term length: a three-year plan shows the lowest monthly figure precisely because it is the hardest to walk away from. Compare the yearly total at renewal, not the monthly number on the pricing page.

The Renewal-Price Trap
The single most common complaint we hear about hosting: the ₹69 or ₹99 per month advertised price applies only to the first term, often only if you pay 2 to 4 years upfront — and the renewal price is 3 to 5 times higher. That is not a scam exactly, but it is designed to be missed. Before buying any plan, check the renewal price, not the introductory one, and compare providers on that number. A plan that starts at ₹299 and renews at ₹349 is often cheaper over three years than one that starts at ₹69 and renews at ₹449.

Ignore the marketing tier names and compare four specific things. First, the renewal price, as covered above — that is the number you will actually live with. Second, the backup policy: how often, kept for how many days, and can you restore one yourself without a support ticket. Third, support quality — a host whose support answers in minutes is worth a small premium over one where your site stays down overnight waiting for a reply. Fourth, server location: for an India-focused audience, hosting served from India or Singapore typically loads faster for your visitors than a US-based plan at the same price.
